Overview
Redesigning not just a store — but a sound-driven identity.
Gappu is a percussion brand based in Kolkata, selling handcrafted cajóns, jamboxes, and cajón bags. While their instruments had a loyal offline following, the original website failed to convert. It lacked emotion, rhythm, and the soul of the craft.
I led a complete UX/UI overhaul that redefined Gappu's digital presence — bringing in a musical identity, brand storytelling, and conversion-focused UX. The result? A 4× revenue boost — from ₹1.5L/month to ₹6L/month — with a smoother checkout flow, elevated product discovery, and a user journey that feels like a song.

Our Approach
Designing like a musician. Building like a composer.
From the very first interaction, the goal was to make users feel the beat — not just browse products.
🎵 Key Experience Design Themes:
Musical Soul in Visuals: Collaborated with a graphic designer to create custom background visuals inspired by sound waves, wood textures, and percussion patterns — infusing the UI with movement and mood.
Instrument-led Storytelling: Each product was positioned like a performer on a stage — large images, emotional copy, and close-up shots of material details mimicked how musicians inspect instruments.
Flow Like a Song: Navigation and transitions were deliberately smooth and rhythmic — every scroll, hover, or tap was meant to feel like part of a jam session.
Brand Voice with Percussion Vibes: Typography, iconography, and copy tone were designed to echo musical rhythm — with rounded shapes, organic layouts, and warm hues.
Custom-built with Dev Harmony: Worked alongside a full-stack developer to execute pixel-perfect layouts that stayed true to the musical concept — without sacrificing speed or functionality.
Remote Leadership & Team Flow: I led a distributed team — conducting daily standups, sprint planning, and creative reviews — like a band practicing in sync across time zones.
This was never “just another e-com redesign.” It was an ode to rhythm, expressed through design.

Results & Impact
We didn’t just increase revenue. We amplified the brand.
The new Gappu site didn’t just sell more instruments — it made users feel like they were stepping into a music studio, not a store.
🔊 Key Outcomes:
4× increase in monthly revenue (₹1.5L → ₹6L) within weeks of launch
30% faster checkout due to optimized, frictionless cart flow
Elevated brand perception, especially among indie musicians and percussionists
Deeper user engagement, with users spending more time browsing and sharing the site
Custom design execution, with 100% fidelity from Figma to final build
Remote success, with a fully distributed team working together in perfect sync
And perhaps most importantly, organic word-of-mouth buzz from musicians and percussionists who praised the site’s feel, flow, and brand story
Gappu is now more than an instrument seller — it’s a digital space that feels like music. Industry peers and independent artists shared the site across communities, applauding its thoughtful layout, immersive feel, and “built-by-musicians-for-musicians” tone. Gappu was no longer just an online store — it became a talked-about brand in indie music circles.
